Big Win For Chicago Airport Workers Toward $15 And A Union
By Doug Cunningham
Airport workers in Chicago scored a victory this week as the city council unanimously voted to raise wages for about 8,000 O’Hare and Midway workers.
Airline contractors and sub-contractors will have to pay workers no less than $13.45 an hour starting July 1st of 2018. Cost of living raises will have to automatically be paid annually after that. The Chicago ordinance also requires airlines to have “labor peace” agreements not to interfere with union organizing drives.
SEIU Local 1 says it’s a major win for workers and a step forward in their Fight For $15 and a union. It took two years of hard work organizing and protesting to get this victory for workers in Chicago.
